ASCAP Screen Awards Honor Scores for ‘Nope,’ ‘White Lotus,’ ‘Ragnarok’

A few of at present’s most talked-about movie and TV composers walked off with Composers Alternative Awards at Tuesday evening’s annual Display Music Awards of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in West Hollywood.

Michael Abels received Movie Rating of the Yr for Jordan Peele’s sci-fi horror film “Nope.” Cristobal Tapia de Veer and Kim Neundorf received Tv Rating of the Yr for HBO’s black comedy “The White Lotus” And Bear McCreary received Video Recreation Rating of the Yr for Sony Interactive’s acclaimed “God of Conflict: Ragnarok.”

In a tie, Documentary Rating of the Yr went to each Amanda Jones for the Nationwide Geographic nature collection “Tremendous/Pure” and Jeff Cardoni for HBO Max’s skateboarding doc “Tony Hawk: Till the Wheels Fall Off.” Cristobal Tapia de Veer additionally received a second award for Tv Theme of the Yr for “The White Lotus.”

Solely de Veer didn’t attend. The composer and songwriter crowd was greeted by ASCAP president Paul Williams together with executives from each New York and L.A. places of work of the performing-rights society.

For Abels, it marked the second main award in simply eight days: His opera “Omar,” with co-writer Rhiannon Giddens, final week received the Pulitzer Prize in music. And for McCreary, it’s a second main award for his “Ragnarok” rating, which received a BAFTA a month and a half in the past.

Composers Alternative Awards are voted by fellow ASCAP composers and songwriters from nominations chosen by movie, TV and recreation trade leaders. All nominees have been based mostly on 2022 releases of their varied fields.

Composers Matthew Hawkins, Maurice “m.O.” Jackson and Neil Martin earned high community TV collection honors for his or her predominant theme for “NCIS,” whereas John Sereda obtained high cable collection honors for his music for “When Calls the Coronary heart.”
