Based in 1908 at Howard College by Ethel Hedgemon Lyle and eight visionary ladies, Alpha Kappa Alpha turned the primary black Greek-letter sorority. With its motto, “By advantage and by tradition,” the sorority has championed progress and uplifted communities for over a century. From its early initiatives just like the Mississippi Well being Mission throughout the Nice Despair to its modern-day efforts elevating hundreds of thousands for HBCUs, Alpha Kappa Alpha has constantly been a power for change.
