When Wanda Cooper-Jones, Ahmaud Arbery’s mom, penned the opening letter of to Adidas’ new “Neighborhood Archives” zine, she wasn’t simply reflecting on her son Ahmaud Arbery’s legacy. She was issuing a name to motion.

“As you flip these pages, I invite you to see past the phrases and images—see the desires which might be unfolding, the futures being constructed, and the enduring fact that one life can spark a motion of change,” the social justice chief and founding father of the Ahmaud Arbery Basis shared.

Her reflections function a robust introduction to a publication that refuses to deal with group influence as an afterthought. In honor of Giving Tuesday, the sportswear model launched “Neighborhood Archives,” a zine documenting half a decade of adidas’ Objective Advertising work, centering the voices of group leaders, creators, and activists who’ve been shaping the intersection of sports activities and tradition.

“I feel with massive manufacturers comes big accountability,” Ayesha Martin, Senior Director of adidas Objective Advertising, instructed theGrio. “One of the simplest ways to truly describe the work that we’ve carried out in our neighborhoods and with impactful companions to make sure that there may be this legacy of entry and fairness in sport and the tradition born of it’s actually simply this group archive.”

The zine itself reads like a love letter to Black excellence in movement. Flip by means of and also you’ll discover WNBA All-Star Layshia Clarendon sharing their journey as an LGBTQ+ activist. There’s Dr. D’Wayne Edwards, whose Pensole Lewis Faculty made historical past as the primary and solely design-focused HBCU, reminding readers to “by no means go up a chance.” The Quilters of Gee’s Bend, a bunch of intergenerational artists preserving Black Southern craft traditions, are featured alongside WNBA stars Aliyah Boston and Candace Parker, professional skater Diego Nájera, and numerous others whose names won’t make headlines however whose work is reshaping communities.

What makes “Neighborhood Archives” completely different from typical company social accountability campaigns is its refusal to place Adidas as a savior. Martin says she and her staff have spent years asking more durable questions on energy, preservation, and who will get to inform these tales.

“By means of this work, we’ve began to develop into actually curious concerning the energy and who holds the facility to archive and memorialize and exhibit,” Martin defined. That curiosity not too long ago manifested in a museum-like expertise for the model’s Honoring Black Excellence platform, curated by Rog & Bee Walker, that elevated the tales of Black honorees past a typical company celebration.

The zine is an extension of Adidas’ broader ecosystem of group work, which incorporates Neighborhood Labs and Wooden U, and partnerships with organizations similar to Recess Kickball League, Black Ladies’s Participant Collective, Pensole Lewis Faculty, and Black Ambition. The form of sustained, multi-year commitments that really feel more and more uncommon at a time when manufacturers typically deal with social justice as a pattern cycle.

“I feel the on daily basis is a crucial second to acknowledge,” Martin stated. “A few of these actions taken by people who find themselves creating with objective that we’re celebrating within the zine can really inform the subsequent technology, and even folks trying to find a window of alternative to see how shaping entry to sport may look.”

For Cooper-Jones, who has channeled unimaginable loss into advocacy work that’s impacting younger folks throughout the nation, the zine represents one thing each commemorative and forward-facing.

“Could this zine function each a celebration of what we now have achieved, and a name to proceed the work of lifting younger folks greater,” she famous.

Martin describes the publication as “a bodily, visceral manifestation of virtually 5 years of collective group motion.” And maybe that’s what makes it resonate. At a time when our tales continually face threats of erasure, and bodily archives really feel like a dwindling artwork on this hyper-digital age, this zine invitations us to see ourselves in these tales, to acknowledge that actions don’t begin with massive companies or campaigns. They start with people like Wanda Cooper-Jones, who draw on private experiences to drive actionable change of their communities.

“These are our tales—archived,” Martin emphasised. “A gorgeous expression of group in motion. The quiet acts of braveness, the daring leaps of religion, the plain potential of each younger individual we’ve linked with—a mild reminder of how, collectively, we transcended a second in time to form a motion.

Together with the zine’s launch, adidas is inviting adiClub members to take part in giving again: for every 100-point contribution by means of December 31, 2025, the model will donate $1 (as much as $50,000) to assist Boys & Women Golf equipment of America’s wellness programming for youth nationwide.
