Nationwide — Jade Smith, a 13-year-old African American woman from Brooklyn, New York, died in January 2023 after leaping from the Brooklyn Bridge. Her mom says town’s child-welfare system made her psychological well being struggles worse throughout months in foster care.

Jade’s mom, Terri Nimmo, stated town’s Administration for Youngsters’s Providers (ACS) took Jade into foster care regardless of years of therapy and assist at house. The household’s federal lawsuit seeks damages and accountability from town and ACS. An ACS spokesperson provided condolences and known as Jade’s loss of life a tragedy.
