Rep. Maxwell Frost victimized by racist attack at Sundance Film Festival

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — A person was arrested Friday night time at a celebration in the course of the Sundance Movie Competition in Park Metropolis, Utah, for allegedly assaulting a Florida congressman.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost wrote on X on Saturday that he was punched within the face by a person who advised Frost that President Donald Trump was going to deport him. The altercation occurred at a non-public get together hosted by expertise company CAA on the Excessive West Distillery, a preferred venue for festival-adjacent occasions.

“He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off,” Frost wrote. “The person was arrested and I’m okay.”

“Political or racially charged violence of any form is unacceptable in Utah,” Cox mentioned in an announcement. “I’m grateful to native legislation enforcement for swiftly apprehending the assailant and pursuing justice for Rep. Maxwell Frost.”

Federal immigration enforcement efforts are “welcome and vital,” he added.

Home Minority Chief Hakeem Jeffries wrote on X that he was horrified by what had occurred and that “the perpetrator have to be aggressively prosecuted.”

“Hate and political violence has no place in our nation,” Jeffries continued.

Messages in search of remark had been left for representatives for CAA.
