Paco León’s ‘Aida, the Movie’ Gets U.S. Theatrical Release Deal

“Aida, the Film,” the function movie spinoff of the wildly profitable Spanish TV sequence “Aida,” is crossing the Atlantic subsequent 12 months, a uncommon transfer for a broad Spanish comedy.

Wiesner Distribution, marking 25 years as a number one distributor of Ibero-American cinema, will probably be releasing the ensemble comedy on Feb. 6 throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Central America’s Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador and Panama. Paul Hudson’s Outsider Photos companions with Wiesner on the U.S. launch.

This follows its Spanish theatrical launch on Jan. 30 by Sony Photos Leisure Iberia.  

Directed by Spain’s Paco León, whose storied profession in movie and tv kicked off with such comedic gems as “Carmina or Blow Up,” “Kiki, Like to Love” and the “Aida” sequence, the comedy reunites León together with his authentic co-stars from the sitcom, together with Carmen Machi, Miren Ibarguren, Mariano Peña, Eduardo Casanova, Pepe Viyuela, Melani Olivares, Canco Rodríguez, Secun de la Rosa, David Castillo, Marisol Ayuso, Pepa Rus, Óscar Reyes and Adrián Gordillo. They’re joined by 96 different actors, largely chosen through an open casting name on the movie’s Instagram account.

“Aida, the Film” expands on the story of Aída, a divorcée struggling to make ends meet whereas elevating her teenage kids within the fictional Madrid neighborhood of Esperanza Sur. The huge ensemble sequence ran from 2005 to 2014 on Spanish broadcast community Telecinco the place it turned a cult basic and helped launch the worldwide careers of its lead actors.

The film is described as a “mix of fiction with meta-cinematic storytelling.” It takes place through the manufacturing of an episode of the sequence, wryfully blurring the boundaries between actors and characters, each on and off display screen, whereas exploring themes like the boundaries of humor, the ability of comedians and the complexities of fame.

Outsider Photos and Wiesner Distribution have usually teamed up on U.S. theatrical releases, most lately on Gerardo Herrero’s dramedy “Underneath Remedy.” Their upcoming releases embrace the “The Condor’s Daughter,” which premiered at TIFF and was closed at this month’s Ventana Sur.

“’Aida’ is a beloved cultural phenomenon that turned a large tv hit in Spain. We’re excited to convey ‘Aida, the Film’ to U.S. audiences and share a narrative whose humor connects effortlessly throughout cultures, grounded in coronary heart and authenticity,” mentioned Cynthia Wiesner, founder and president of Wiesner Distribution.

The pic is produced by Globomedia, a part of The Mediapro Studio, and Telecinco Cinema, with the participation of Mediaset España and Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group.

León, whose worldwide credit embrace “The Insufferable Weight of Huge Expertise” starring Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal, and Machi, whose credit embrace breakout hit “Livid” and Pedro Almodóvar’s “I’m So Excited,” will probably be attending the comedy’s Miami premiere on Feb. 5 subsequent 12 months.
