Nationwide — Terra McKinnon, a 45-year-old African American deputy sheriff in Polk County, Florida, sadly died after preventing breast most cancers for years. Her dying left the sheriff’s workplace and the Dundee neighborhood mourning a well-loved public servant.

McKinnon joined the Polk County Sheriff’s Workplace in 2006. She spent her early years on patrol, later getting into the position of road coaching teacher, the place she helped information newer deputies. Her colleagues usually described her as regular, affected person, and deeply dedicated to her work, based on 11Alive.

She later served on the Dundee Sheriff’s Station, specializing in community-oriented policing. Her heat strategy and fixed presence made her a well-recognized face within the city, and the company mentioned residents rapidly grew to understand her dedication.

PCSO mentioned her well being began declining as she continued her combat with breast most cancers, sophisticated by an already weakened immune system. Even with well being challenges, she remained dedicated to serving the neighborhood she cherished.

In a message posted on social media, the sheriff’s workplace expressed heartbreak over her passing and thanked the neighborhood for supporting her household and fellow deputies.

“We already miss her — her ever-present smile, her selfless service, and her dedication to our company and our residents. We’re so grateful we had her for almost 20 years. Relaxation in peace, 6224. We love you,” PCSO mentioned in an announcement.
