South Fulton Mayoral Candidates Face Claims Of Violence And Ethics Violations

South Fulton Mayoral candidates Dr. Mark Baker and Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs will go into the Dec. 2 election with looming allegations.

The mayoral race in South Fulton, Georgia, is making headlines after a short lived safety order was filed towards candidate Dr. Mark Baker and an ethics grievance was filed towards second runoff candidate Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs.

Dr. Mark Baker, who’s a candidate for the mayoral seat, was served with a short lived safety order that alleges Baker threatened South Fulton resident Christopher McCreary at an occasion on Nov. 14, WSBTV reported. The alleged confrontation adopted McCreary’s on-line social media criticism of Baker’s management. 

“I reached out to shake his hand. He stated I ought to hit you in your face for speaking [expletive] about me on [social media],’” the person wrote within the petition. “… I said that is what I used to be speaking about with him glorifying gangs, and walked off. I instructed him I used to be apprehensive for my security.”

Baker denies the accusation. He instructed WSB-TV the short-term safety order is a “staged scary assault” and nothing greater than a political stunt.

The authorized problem is ongoing, and a listening to relating to the short-term safety order is scheduled for December 15.

As Baker contends with the felony matter, mayoral candidate councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs is coping with an ethics grievance filed by resident Reshard Snellings and reported by WSB-TV. Snellings claims Gumbs improperly voted on a warehouse growth as a result of the developer was additionally a donor to her marketing campaign. Snellings believes that voting on a bid by a political donor violates the general public belief. The grievance alleges that town constitution required her to recuse herself from the vote.

Gumbs, nonetheless, rejects all allegations of wrongdoing. She said she did nothing improper. The councilwoman emphasised that she voted towards the warehouse growth in query. The South Fulton metropolis lawyer confirmed Gumbs didn’t violate town constitution on this occasion. However, town’s ethics board is reviewing Snellings’ grievance, which retains the difficulty lively in the course of the election cycle.

The runoff between Gumbs and Baker to find out South Fulton’s subsequent mayor takes place on Dec. 2.
