‘Tumbbad 2’ Finds Backing From India’s Pen Studios

Actor-producer Sohum Shah and his banner, Sohum Shah Movies, have unveiled a collaboration with Pen Studios, led by trade stalwart Jayantilal Gada, for “Tumbbad 2,” the extremely anticipated sequel to the cult horror movie.

The announcement comes on the heels of the 2018 authentic’s exceptional field workplace resurrection, with its 2024 re-release in India grossing $1.5 million — a testomony to the movie’s enduring attraction that has remodeled it from a sleeper hit to a genre-defining masterpiece.

“Tumbbad,” which follows a grasping village boy’s pursuit of a cursed ancestral treasure guarded by the satan, was the primary Indian movie to open the Venice Critics’ Week in 2018. The folklore horror movie blended mythology and fantasy.

Now, with “Tumbbad 2,” the makers promise to delve deeper into the universe that redefined fantasy-horror in Indian cinema. The mission is backed by Pen Studios, whose credit embody “Sita Ramam” and Berlinale title “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” and is ready to start manufacturing early subsequent 12 months.

Shah stated: “I’ve regarded as much as Jayantilal Gada ji’s work for a few years. After I met him to debate ‘Tumbbad 2,’ inside simply 5 minutes he locked the deal. It’s the sort of religion each storyteller goals of. The appreciation, respect, and love he confirmed in the direction of ‘Tumbbad’ made me understand the movie had actually acquired its due.”

Whereas co-director Rahi Anil Barve received’t be returning for the sequel on account of different commitments, Adesh Prasad, who co-directed the unique “Tumbbad,” is ready to helm the brand new instalment. 

The sequel has been years within the making, with Shah telling Selection earlier that “The script is prepared, took us six years to good it. We cracked the thought with huge problem to make sure it does justice to ‘Tumbbad’s’ world.”
