1000’s of revelers gathered in Harlem on Sunday for the 56th Annual African American Day Parade (AADP).
The parade route stretched alongside Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard from 111th Road to 137th Road, that includes marching bands, neighborhood organizations, efficiency teams, floats, fraternities and sororities, civil servants, celebrities, and public leaders. The occasion was live-streamed by WABC 7.
This 12 months’s theme—“Schooling is Our #1 Precedence”—highlighted the significance of civic engagement. Parade officers honored faculty presidents from traditionally Black faculties and universities (HBCUs), native principals and training leaders who’ve made important contributions to the African American neighborhood.
Among the many grand marshals was Dr. Tony Allen, president of Delaware State College; Dr. Martin Lamelle Jr., president of Grambling State College; and Dr. Patrice Ramsey, president of Medgar Evers Faculty.

Further grand marshals embody Sandra Bookman, anchor of Eyewitness Information on ABC7/WABC-TV; WBLS 107.5 FM radio character Dr. Bob Lee; Pleasure Bivins, director of the Schomburg Middle for Analysis in Black Tradition; and the founder and CEO of the Make the Grade Basis.
Native faculty principals will even function marshals: Dr. Shawn F. Brown, principal of Uniondale Excessive Faculty on Lengthy Island; Francina Yaw-Costello, principal of Amber Constitution Faculty in Inwood; and Jean E. Jeanty, principal of Pugsley Preparatory Academy Center Faculty within the Bronx.
The celebration started on Saturday with the third annual “Get Concerned: Neighborhood Literacy, Well being & Tradition” occasion on the State Workplace Constructing Plaza on a hundred and twenty fifth Road and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. This system supplied free books, neighborhood sources, and reside performances.
