We’re one week away from Heritage Day. In between stocking up on braaivleis and charcoal, you’ll be able to assist the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) top off on its blood reserves.

As a part of their newest marketing campaign, “Giving is in my blood: Make blood donation a part of your heritage,” the WCBS is encouraging South Africans from all walks of life to donate blood this September and October, and stop potential inventory shortages.

“As we have fun our various heritage, we encourage everybody to make giving a part of their id,” says Marike Carli, the general public relations supervisor at WCBS. “There is no such thing as a substitute for blood – it’s a selfless act that saves lives and helps households.”

DONATE BLOOD TO SAVE SAFFAS’ LIVES

One unit of blood (475 millilitres) is sufficient to save as much as three lives. All donations will go in direction of replenishing the WCBS’ blood shares, benefitting numerous sufferers throughout the Western Cape.

To develop into a donor, you will want to satisfy the next necessities:

You have to be between the ages of 16 and 75.

You weigh 50 kilograms or extra.

You’re medically wholesome.

You lead a secure way of life.

Keep in mind to eat a hearty meal roughly three or 4 hours earlier than making your donation. This helps improve your fluid consumption earlier than and after the donation is accomplished.

Additionally, you will obtain a free, particular water bottle as thanks for supporting the marketing campaign.

When you’re unable to contribute to the “Giving is in my blood” marketing campaign, don’t fear. You may ask the WCBS to pay R15 in your behalf to a specific beneficiary as a part of their “Via our Further Drop” initiative.

For September and October, that beneficiary is the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR), which specialises in offering bone marrow transplants. These funds will go in direction of discovering new donors, increasing SABMR’s registry and securing life-saving transplants.

Wish to understand how else you’ll be able to assist? Go to wcbs.org.za or ship a WhatsApp message to 060 549 7244 for extra info or to find your nearest blood donation clinic.

Make a distinction this Heritage Month by donating blood immediately. Then, you’ll be able to deal with your self to some iron-rich steak or biltong afterwards!
