Mecklenburg County Public Well being will provide free HIV testing for HIV Testing Day, which is June 27.
The county may even present data and referrals for PrEP — an HIV prevention medicine at completely different clinics.
The free testing comes as Mecklenburg Public Well being not too long ago eradicated 11 illness investigator positions that observe HIV, syphilis and different sexually transmitted infections.
Well being Director Raynard Washington mentioned the positions have been eradicated as a result of the U.S. Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention had not launched funding for the HIV Prevention Portfolio to the state, which Congress had already appropriated.
The county’s free testing, which started June 24, is scheduled for a number of areas and dates:
June 27, 12-3 p.m. – Valerie C. Woodard Heart (3205 Freedom Dr.)
June 27, 6-9 p.m. – TCB 54 Hundred Bar (5400 Nevin Rd.)
June 28, 10 p.m.-1 a.m.– Woodshed Bar (3935 Queen Metropolis Dr.)
No appointment is required.
In 2023, 272 new HIV diagnoses have been reported in Mecklenburg County. In 2022, African Individuals accounted for nearly 3 out of 5 new HIV circumstances.
