National Theatre Sets 12 Productions, Rufus Norris to Step Down

 On the Nationwide Theatre’s Olivier Theatre from February 2024 is “Nye,” a brand new play by Tim Worth charting the lifetime of Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan and his battle to create the NHS, directed by Norris and with Michael Sheen enjoying Bevan. In the meantime, over on the West Finish, Jack Thorne’s new play, “The Motive and the Cue,” impressed by the making of Burton and Gielgud’s “Hamlet” and directed by Sam Mendes, will switch into the Noël Coward Theatre from Dec. 9 till March 23, 2024. Co-produced with Neal Road Productions, Johnny Flynn, Mark Gatiss and Tuppence Middleton will return to play the roles of Richard Burton, John Gielgud and Elizabeth Taylor.

Sheffield Theatres’ manufacturing of “Standing on the Sky’s Edge” will play on the Gillian Lynne Theatre from Feb. 8, 2024. Co-produced by the Nationwide Theatre and Numerous Productions, the Olivier-winning British musical is directed by Sheffield Theatres’ creative director, Robert Hastie, that includes songs by Richard Hawley with e-book by Chris Bush.
