Nationwide — Yassin Khalifa, a 15-year-old African American boy from Central Park, New York, survived a lightning strike throughout a sudden thunderstorm whereas hanging out with pals. The strike knocked him out however left him fortunate sufficient to keep away from severe nerve harm.
The highschool sophomore was spending a day in Central Park along with his pals when sudden thunderstorms rolled in.
“I leaned up towards a tree, and I advised them, Oh, guys, let’s trip out the storm, which in hindsight may not have been one of the best concept,” Khalifa advised ABC 7 NY.
The lightning hit the tree proper the place Khalifa was leaning. The shock knocked him unconscious for a couple of minutes. When paramedics arrived, he was awake and alert and was rapidly taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Middle.
On the hospital, medical doctors handled Khalifa for second-degree burns on his neck and leg. Regardless of the trauma, he averted any nerve harm as a result of his backbone was pressed towards the tree. This stored his motor capabilities intact.
“Apparently, I’m fairly fortunate, as a result of my backbone was immediately towards the tree, and no nerve harm occurred. So I’m like, not shedding any form of motor perform. So I’m fairly blissful about that,” Khalifa mentioned.
