Swanky Brooklyn hotspot Aliya was the scene for HelloBeautiful x MadameNoire’s Girls To Know: Trendy Mavericks dinner and panel. Visitors and honorees pulled as much as Lodge Indigo for a curated night of cocktails, bites, music, and good dialog. Earlier than taking the elevator to the fourth ground, friends stopped by the backdrop for a photograph op.

The night started with a panel that includes HB x MN’s Trendy Mavericks—Murjoni Merriweather, Latoya Hobbs, and Jewel Ham—from our newest Girls To Know cowl. As Black ladies artists, they’re utilizing their canvas to seize the fantastic thing about Black existence. Every lady’s distinctive character shined as they answered questions from moderator and managing editor of MadameNoire, Danica Daniel.

Jewel Ham’s larger-than-life character was magnetic. She is as unapologetic as her paintings, which depicts on a regular basis life for Black folks. She is ready to seize the vulnerability and authenticity of Black womanhood in her prints.

Murjoni’s smile was fascinating as she gushed over her love for clay, the fabric she shifts and shapes to create lifelike sculptures. Hobbs’ paintings is all about making a legacy. At one level within the panel, she boldly acknowledged she’s not making items to slot in your front room, she’s making items to slot in the museum. Mic drop.

Following the panel, we assembled on the foyer bar for signature drinks just like the Dusse-spiked Whats up, Madame. Waiters handed round lobster and oxtail dishes, served over plantains. Lastly, the night time ended with us overlooking the pool whereas we dined, listening to the DJ who supplied the vibes.
