500 NYC Bodegas Will Soon Be Equipped With Panic Buttons

New York Metropolis Mayor Eric Adams introduced that town is spending $1.6 million to equip an estimated 500 bodegas throughout the 5 boroughs

Because of a rise in crimes going down at New York Metropolis bodegas, town will begin a $1.6 million initiative that to equip about 500 shops all through town to offer them the possibility to press a panic button if against the law is about to or is going down.

New York Metropolis Mayor Eric Adams introduced that this system. The chosen bodegas, positioned in high-crime neighborhoods, could have “SilentShield” buttons related to the New York Metropolis Police Division (NYPD) that may be pressed in case of emergency.

Cameras may also be put in within the nook shops in order that law enforcement officials can see any potential or precise crimes going down in real-time.

“This program will convey peace of thoughts to our bodega homeowners whereas defending the working-class New Yorkers who work and frequent bodegas,” Adams stated in an announcement. “Our bodegas are important to New York Metropolis, and with this funding, we’re telling these small companies: Your metropolis has your again.”

That is being distributed by an emergency grant to the United Bodega Affiliation (UBA), which has been combating for higher safety for the shops within the metropolis. This funding will try to make sure that bodegas, essential small companies that assist metropolis neighborhoods within the 5 boroughs, have the safety and assist they should hold their employees and prospects secure.

UBA is within the strategy of soliciting corporations to submit aggressive bids for SilentShield expertise. The objective is to start out putting in the panic buttons within the coming months.

“We thank Mayor Adams for taking actual motion,” stated Radhamés Rodríguez, president, UBA. “We got here to the mayor and he didn’t hesitate to supply his assist as a result of our blue-collar mayor is aware of simply how essential bodegas are to their communities.”
