One main tweak has been made to the 2023 ESSENCE Pageant of Tradition for hip-hop’s fiftieth anniversary. Days after publicly questioning why he wasn’t included within the massive celebration, Essence has come to an settlement to usher in legendary New Orleans rapper Juvenile to hitch the festivities.
“Over the previous 29 years, the ESSENCE Pageant of Tradition™ has been inseparable from the town of New Orleans,” Essence offered rolling out in an official assertion. “…the $327M in annual affect that the competition brings — the cultural depth and breadth of our long-standing relationship with the neighborhood, native enterprise homeowners and artists of the town of New Orleans and State of Louisiana is a dedication that we proceed to deeply spend money on, amplify, uphold and illuminate to all who be part of us for this annual celebration of Black tradition.”
Juvenile took to social media to react to the information himself.
“Hip-Hop 50 with out Juvie? Not an opportunity,” he posted on Twitter. “June thirtieth, NOLA we stay!”
Fellow New Orleans rapper Mia X was already a beforehand introduced act for the celebration. Different artists within the hip-hop celebration embrace Lauryn Hill, Doug E. Contemporary, Missy Elliott, Jermaine Dupri, Megan Thee Stallion, Salt-N-Pepa and Trina.
