K-pop Group Kiss of Life Apologizes For “Culturally Insensitive” Video, Says “We Are Not Racist”

Nationwide — The members of KISS OF LIFE, a rising Ok-pop lady group managed by S2 Leisure, are dealing with main backlash after a controversial livestream celebrating member Julie’s birthday. Julie, together with fellow members Natty, Belle, and Haneul, appeared wearing what they known as “old skool hip-hop” trend—sporting gold chains, cornrows, Bantu knots, and slurred rap-style freestyles, whereas dancing to 50 Cent’s “In da Membership.” The video, which was supposed to be playful and celebratory, rapidly drew criticism from followers who felt it was racially insensitive and culturally appropriative. Consequently, the group reportedly misplaced greater than 200,000 followers on social media.
