Essex County Commissioner A’Dorian Murray-Thomas, a local of Newark, N.J., acknowledged the necessity to acknowledge the affect of Divine 9 Organizations and their members, and took motion to make sure their contributions in Essex County obtained some well-deserved recognition. The consequence was Essex County’s First Divine 9 Day Celebration, held on Mar. 5 on the Essex County Corridor of Information in Newark. Leaders of the Divine 9 organizations obtained resolutions on behalf of the Essex County Board of Commissioners and the Metropolis of Newark’s Municipal Council.
As a highschool scholar, Murray-Thomas obtained scholarships from each the Montclair Alumnae Chapter and North Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Now, she shares scholarship data yearly from native chapters of sororities and fraternities within the Essex County space. She believes it’s her duty to characterize her neighbors — residents of District Two in Essex County.

“The function of the elected official is to be an amplifier of the voices of the individuals. It’s to not be their voice as a result of our individuals have a voice,” stated Murray-Thomas, a founding father of SHE Wins, Inc. and a 2016 White Home Champion of Change — Faculty Alternative honoree below then-President Barack Obama’s administration. “It’s to be an amplifier of the voices that exist and the voices which might be silenced and silent. We had been thrilled to host the first-ever Divine 9 Day to have fun the work and accomplishments of the Nationwide Pan-Hellenic Council of Essex County. We’re bringing collectively inspirational leaders who’ve made vital impacts of their communities.”
