Mother of 18-Year-Old Accused of Spray-Painting Racist Messages on Schools Turns Son In, Says He Was ‘Naive,’ Became Involved with ‘Radicalized Group’

The mom of a young person accused of spray-painting racist graffiti on two Missouri faculties spoke out about her son’s arrest and why she turned him in to police.

St. Louis County Police arrested 18-year-old Patrick Sloan, who allegedly painted racist symbols and messages on the buildings of Affton Excessive College and Rogers Center College earlier this month within the St. Louis suburb of Affton.

Sloan’s mom spoke out after turning the 18-year-old over to the police.

Charging paperwork say that Sloan “knowingly (dedicated the vandalism) due to the race and/or faith of scholars and workers members of the college district.”

“He’s 18, however he’s very naive,” his mom added. “This has simply been a nightmare for us.”

The Affton College District confirmed that Sloan is an Affton Excessive alumnus who graduated from the college in Might 2024.

District officers mentioned they’re working with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the St. Louis Holocaust Museum, and different neighborhood companions to offer help, sources, and studying alternatives for college students and workers.

The varsity system can also be rising safety presence in any respect its faculties and enhancing after-hours monitoring to stop additional vandalism.
