BLK Offers Free Flights For Black DC Users To Skip Inauguration

The competition hopes to offer an escape for Black folks frightened concerning the potential chaos of one other Donald Trump inauguration.

BLK has launched its #BLKFreedomWeekend in order that Black D.C. residents can keep away from Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In keeping with BLK, the favored courting app for Black folks, 80% of its D.C.-based customers really feel anxious, involved, or offended concerning the upcoming inauguration and the potential chaos that would ensue.

To appease this fear, BLK is internet hosting its Freedom Weekend contest to offer flight credit to any vacation spot of its winners’ selecting.

“With #BLKFreedomWeekend, we’re providing Black DC residents the prospect to step away from the chaos and reclaim this necessary vacation in a approach that feels significant to them,” Jonathan Kirkland, head of brand name and advertising and marketing at BLK, mentioned in a press launch despatched to BLACK ENTERPRISE. “Dr. King’s imaginative and prescient of freedom consists of the best to prioritize our personal peace and pleasure. This marketing campaign is our approach of honoring that legacy.”

The social app will choose 10 winners from the metro D.C. space, and fly them out to a brand new metropolis to have fun MLK Day elsewhere. BLK’s research additionally revealed that 59% of customers rank doable violence or unrest as their high security concern, with 41% preferring to depart the realm throughout that point.

“Our survey reveals the emotional toll this weekend takes on our neighborhood,” added Kirkland. “By giving Black residents of DC the prospect to depart town, we hope to create a second of liberation—a chance to really have fun freedom and honor Dr. King’s imaginative and prescient in ways in which really feel restorative.”

D.C. space residents with a BLK profile can enter the competition now without charge till 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 13.
