Takeshi Kitano’s ‘Broken Rage’ Sets Streaming Debut With Prime Video

Prime Video has set a February international premiere for “Damaged Rage,” the most recent characteristic from acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano.

The genre-hybrid challenge, each directed by and starring Kitano, takes an revolutionary method by splitting its runtime into two distinct segments. The primary half delivers a gritty crime thriller following a hitman caught between regulation enforcement and yakuza forces, whereas the second portion reimagines the identical narrative via a comedic lens utilizing self-parody strategies.

The streamer has assembled a powerhouse solid led by Golden Globe winner Tadanobu Asano (“Shogun”), marking his third collaboration with Kitano following “Zatōichi” (2003) and “Kubi” (2023). Becoming a member of him is Nao Omori, who makes “Damaged Rage” his sixth Kitano challenge after memorable turns in “Dolls” (2002), “Achilles and the Tortoise” (2008), “Outrage Coda” (2017), and “Kubi” (2023).

The yakuza hierarchy options Shidō Nakamura, recent off his Kitano debut in “Kubi” (2023), and veteran collaborator Hakuryu. The expansive ensemble consists of Takashi Nishina, Shohei Uno, Shoken Kunimoto, Masato Yano, Shiro Maeda, Jun Akiyama, and a recent injection of comedic expertise with Gekidan Hitori, Masanori Hasegawa, Azusa Babazono, and Mogura Suzuki making their Kitano movie debuts. Composer Shinya Kiyozuka gives the rating.

The movie, which Kitano himself describes as an “experimental endeavor,” explores his conceptual curiosity to find “comedy inside a violent movie.” Following its Venice Movie Competition 2024 Out of Competitors screening, “Damaged Rage” represents a milestone as the primary Japanese streaming-exclusive manufacturing to obtain an official choice on the prestigious competition.

The movie debuts globally on Prime Video on Feb. 13. It is going to drop concurrently in additional than 240 nations and territories worldwide as a part of the streaming platform’s continued push into unique worldwide content material.
