Houston ISD’s board approves $870M contracts amid controversy

Houston ISD’s board of managers retroactively accredited all cooperative vendor awards from Aug. 11, 2023, to the current, totaling as much as $870 million. 

HISD Superintendent Mike Miles earlier admitted that his administration didn’t get board approval for the contracts spent over the previous 16 months, in accordance with the college district. Miles referred to as this a “good religion error” with no “mal intent,” which is now being rectified.

Seven of the 9 members voted to approve the expenditure, with solely Rolando Martinez voting towards it and Cassandra Auzenne Bandy abstaining.
