The First Black-Founded Journalism School Set To Open In The UK

The founding father of the primary Black youngsters’s journal in the UK is altering the sport by opening a journalism faculty to enhance range requirements in artistic areas.

Serlina Boyd, founding father of Cocoa Woman journal, is scheduled to open the doorways to the Cocoa College of Journalism and Artistic Arts on April 8 in Beckenham, South London. The curriculum will educate youngsters all concerning the components of journalism, together with information reporting, video enhancing, and illustration.

Described as “a hub that champions creativity,” Boyd says programs can even cowl artistic writing and music as she desires the teachings to encourage these subsequent in line to decide on the lower than stereotypical profession paths.

She already works with a staff of budding journalists—ages 10 and above—for her journal. Boyd and her daughter, Religion, launched the publication in 2020, and it has been distributed to 500 colleges throughout the U.Okay. Shortly afterward, the duo created an identical publication referred to as Cocoa Boy. 

The journey of educating journalism abilities to younger youngsters has already offered Boyd’s staff with nice alternatives, reminiscent of interviewing Halle Bailey, the star of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The journalist hopes to work with Black media professionals to show and run some workshops.
