Michelle Wu Issues Apology To Wrongfully Accused Black Men

On Dec. 20, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu issued a public apology to Alan Swanson and Willie Bennett, two Black males who have been wrongfully arrested in connection to the homicide of a pregnant white girl in 1989. The incident exacerbated current divides in a metropolis already fractured alongside racial traces and reignited mistrust and frustration between the Black neighborhood and the Boston Police Division.

“We’re right here right now to acknowledge the super ache that town of Boston inflicted on Black residents all through our neighborhoods 34 years in the past,” Wu — Boston’s first Asian American Mayor — mentioned throughout a press convention at Metropolis Corridor Wednesday, in accordance with a video reposted by the Boston Globe.
