Billy Greer is a FAMU alum who graduated from the HBCU in 1986. He was current on the Celebration Bowl to observe FAMU and Howard College face off within the Celebration Bowl and spoke with rolling out about his expertise at FAMU and why folks ought to attend an HBCU.
Why did you select FAMU?
I selected FAMU due to the enterprise faculty and my scholarship to play basketball.
How was the HBCU expertise for you?
It was fantastic. It was one of the best resolution that I ever made as a result of I used to be round sensible, Black folks, and it was all the time a way of household, which I really like.
Why ought to folks attend HBCUs?
The expertise may be very completely different than going to a PWI as a result of there’s a sense of household. After you graduate, the homecomings are very completely different, so I’ve been to a number of homecomings each time I am going again. It’s so a lot enjoyable, and it seems like everyone who’s graduated from FAMU is a part of my household.
What’s one constructive factor you’ve seen from FAMU over time?
I’ve seen that FAMU is beginning to recruit and herald folks from extra components of the nation than beforehand. It’s a public faculty so there’s a bias towards Florida people, however I believe the college has finished a very good job in recruiting folks from all throughout the nation. I grew up in Chicago with the fam and I had a number of buddies who got here from different locations, so I believe that’s the easiest way to be sure to hold the college vibrant is to usher in youngsters from different states.
