Moroccan film ‘The Mother of All Lies’ makes history winning top prize at Marrakech Film Festival

The Moroccan movie “The Mom of All Lies” has achieved a historic feat by turning into the first-ever recipient of the Étoile D’Or (Golden Star), the highest prize on the Marrakech Movie Competition.

Asmae El Moudir’s hybrid documentary, “The Mom of All Lies,” was additionally Morocco’s official submission for the Greatest Worldwide Function class on the 2024 Oscars.

The movie creatively delves into her household’s haunted previous and Morocco’s historical past in the course of the “Years of Lead” below King Hassan II by way of a singular use of a mannequin and collectible figurines, addressing the challenges of restricted archival footage.

French-Senegalese director Ramata-Toulaye Sy secured the Greatest Director award for her debut movie “Banel & Adama” on the twentieth version of the competition.

Bosnian actress Asja Zara Lagumdzija was honored as Greatest Actress for “Tour,” whereas Turkish actor Doga Karakas acquired the Greatest Actor award for “Dormitory.”

The competition’s conclusion, spanning from November 24 to December 2, carried a tone of “sobriety” amid the continuing battle in Gaza.
