Black Author Re-Releases Fictional Novel About a Mentally Ill Black Man’s Encounter With Racism and Police Brutality

Nationwide — James E. Cherry’s newest novel, Fringe of the Wind, from Stephen F Austin College Press, facilities round protagonist Alexander van der Pool, a 25-year-old Black man who’s off his remedy and listening to voices. The first voice he hears is that of his alter ego, Tobi. Alex has been writing poetry and needs to seek out out whether it is any good. He visits a literature class at a neighborhood school to have them evaluated and once they attempt to put him out, he pulls a gun and takes the category hostage.

That is what fiction author Valerie Martin has to say about Fringe of the Wind: “On this touching and great novel, Cherry follows Flannery O’Conner’s shocking dictum and actually holds a gun to his characters’ heads. Their earnest and trustworthy engagement within the ethical confrontation that follows will let you know the whole lot it’s essential to find out about race in America.”

Cherry is the writer of three volumes of poetry, a group of brief fiction, and two novels. He has an MFA in inventive writing from the College of Texas at El Paso. His work has been nominated for an NAACP Picture Award, a Lillian Smith Ebook Award, and a Subsequent Technology Indie Ebook Award.

When Fringe of the Wind was first revealed in 2016, it was a finalist for Foreword Evaluations Ebook of the 12 months for Fiction. Copies of the reissue can be found now wherever books are bought.
