Police searching for woman who vanished after reporting child on side of Alabama interstate

HOOVER, Ala (AP) — Police in Alabama searched Friday for a 25-year-old girl who vanished after telling a member of the family that she was stopping to verify on a toddler she noticed strolling on the aspect of an interstate freeway.

Hoover police say Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell known as 911 Thursday night time after which a member of the family to say she noticed a younger baby strolling on the aspect of I-459. When officers arrived on the location, they discovered Russell’s automobile and her cellular phone however had been unable to seek out her or a toddler within the space.

Lt. Daniel Lowe mentioned the member of the family on the cellphone with Russell misplaced contact together with her regardless that the road remained open. He mentioned a single witness reported presumably seeing a grey automobile and a person standing exterior of Carlee’s automobile, however they don’t have any extra data.

Police requested folks to report any data they could have about her disappearance.

“No piece of knowledge is just too small on this investigation,” Lowe instructed reporters Friday.

Lowe mentioned police are pursing all potentialities within the disappearance. ”We’re definitely leaving nothing off the desk,” he mentioned when requested if investigators consider she was kidnapped.

Members of the family organized a search within the space.

“We’re simply gonna scour the earth,” Russell’s dad, Carlos Russell, instructed WVTM. “There’s no stopping us.”

Talitha Russell instructed al.com that her daughter was headed residence after leaving work and stopping to get meals. She was on the cellphone together with her brother’s girlfriend when she mentioned she noticed a toddler on the roadside.

“My son’s girlfriend heard her asking the kid, ‘Are you Okay?’ She by no means heard the kid say something however then she heard our daughter scream,’’ Talitha Russell mentioned. “From there, all you hear on her cellphone is background noise from the interstate.”

Police mentioned an nameless donor supplied a $20,000 reward for Russell’s protected return and one other $5,000 reward is out there by Crime Stoppers.

Hoover is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Birmingham.
