The choice to raise Yusef was made by the coalition’s board to make sure organizational continuity.

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition has chosen Yusef Jackson as its subsequent chief following the dying of the group’s founder and world civil rights icon, the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr.

The appointment of Yusef Jackson follows a short interval of management uncertainty after the resignation of Rev. Frederick Haynes III. Haynes had initially been chosen to succeed the elder Jackson. In response to Politico, the choice to raise Yusef was made by the coalition’s board to make sure organizational continuity and to protect the founder’s lifelong mission of financial and social justice.

In an X publish, Rainbow PUSH Coalition introduced Yusef’s appointment. The group expressed its enthusiastic help within the present instances, “demand extra,” and Yusef is presumably the precise option to push for extra.

“With the appointment of Yusef D. Jackson as President and CEO of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, we’re reminded that this isn’t only a management transition—it’s a name to motion. We live in a second that calls for extra: extra braveness, extra unity, extra dedication to justice. The battle for civil rights and financial fairness isn’t behind us—it’s proper now,” the publish learn.

Rev. Jackson, a two-time presidential candidate and protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., died on Feb. 17 on the age of 84. His passing in Chicago got here after a number of years of serious well being challenges, together with an extended battle with a neurological dysfunction.

The Rev. Jackson’s dying has prompted a nationwide reflection on a profession that spanned greater than six a long time. From his early work with the Southern Christian Management Convention to his historic Rainbow Coalition presidential runs within the Nineteen Eighties, Jackson was instrumental in increasing the Democratic Celebration’s base. Moreover, his work led to the registration of thousands and thousands of latest voters. In his later years, regardless of the bodily toll of progressive supranuclear palsy, he remained a presence at main civil rights demonstrations and political conventions.
