Jay-Z quietly changed his name, here’s what it could mean

Jay-Z has quietly reintroduced the umlaut over the “Y” in his title, showcasing the title change on ads for his upcoming occasions.

The 56-year-old rapper will carry out at Yankee Stadium in July, and with The Roots on the Roots Picnic in Might. He’s now referring to himself as JAŸ-Z forward of these occasions. Particularly, his Yankee Stadium exhibits, devoted to his debut studio album, 1996’s Affordable Doubt, on July 10, and his 2001 album The Blueprint on July 11, show the brand new title.

Equally, the poster promoting the rapper’s efficiency with The Roots on the annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on Might 30 exhibits the title change.

It seems that the title change is the rapper’s solution to stay in contact together with his roots, as his cowl artwork from his earliest information, together with his 1996 debut album Affordable Doubt and its breakout singles “Ain’t No N—a,” “Can’t Knock the Hustle” and “Feelin’ It”, featured an umlaut.

In 2017, the 25-time Grammy winner reintroduced the hyphen forward of the album 4:44.

“‘Jay Z’ is now a relic of the previous, consigned to the dustbin of historical past,” his workforce stated in a press release to Leisure Weekly on the time. “Instead stands JAY-Z, now with the hyphen again as a replacement and the entire title in all-caps.”

Since 2017’s 4:44, the hitmaker hasn’t launched a full solo album. He launched the joint album All the things Is Love together with his spouse, Beyoncé, in 2018.
