*(Queens, New York) – In honor of Black Historical past Month, the Jamaica Middle for Arts & Studying (JCAL) – Queens’ premier hub for the visible and performing arts – presents its annual pageant A Weekend of West African Dance at JCAL: A Black Historical past Month Presentation, a vibrant celebration of rhythm, historical past, and tradition. This 12 months’s occasion will kick off with interactive workshops on February 17-18 at 7PM, adopted by the mainstage performances happening February 27–28 at 8PM. The pageant will likely be led by Kofago Dance Ensemble and FANIKE! African Dance, two acclaimed firms deeply rooted in West African motion traditions. 

By means of highly effective choreography and dwell musical expression, A Weekend of West African Dance highlights the vitality, precision, and religious grounding of African dance – honoring ancestral traditions whereas celebrating their continued evolution by way of modern efficiency. As well as, this system will function a post-performance “dance-back,” inviting audiences into dialog and reflection with the artists. The weekend can even embody workshops helmed by the present’s choreographers and providing members the chance to interact immediately with the motion, approach, and the cultural foundations of West African dance.
