*Sunday’s Grammy Awards developed right into a nauseating political demonstration as music’s largest stars weaponized their acceptance speeches in opposition to federal immigration enforcement.

The 68th annual ceremony at Los Angeles’s Crypto.com Area witnessed historic victories intertwined with anti-Trump activism, as artists sporting “ICE OUT” pins condemned authorities crackdowns following nationwide protests over agent deployments and the Minneapolis deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti final month. Host Trevor Noah embraced the politically charged environment.

Unhealthy Bunny captured Album of the Yr for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” turning into the primary artist to win the ceremony’s highest honor with a Spanish-language recording. His acceptance for Greatest Música Urbana Album established the night’s confrontational tone. “Earlier than I say because of God, I’m going to say: ICE out,” Unhealthy Bunny stated. “We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We’re people. And we’re People. … The one factor that’s extra highly effective than hate is love.”

Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell claimed their third Tune of the Yr trophy for “Wildflower.” The siblings displayed “ICE OUT” pins throughout the broadcast. Talking after successful music of the 12 months, Eilish stated, “As grateful as I really feel, I actually don’t really feel like I have to say something however that: Nobody is illegitimate on stolen land.” Community censors muted her subsequent remarks, although she continued: “It’s simply actually laborious to know what to say and what to do proper now. And I really feel actually hopeful on this room, and I really feel like we simply have to preserve combating, and talking up and protesting, and our voices actually do matter and the individuals matter.”

Kendrick Lamar took house the File of the Yr trophy for his Luther Vandross homage “Luther.”

British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean accepted Greatest New Artist by highlighting her immigrant heritage. “I’m up right here because the granddaughter of an immigrant,” stated Dean, who was born in London to a Jamaican-Guyanese mom and an English father. “I’m a product of bravery and I feel these individuals need to be celebrated. We’re nothing with out one another.”

Nigerian-American artist Shaboozey claimed his inaugural Grammy for Greatest Nation Efficiency alongside Jelly Roll for “Amen,” instantly centering immigrant experiences in his remarks. He devoted his first Grammy win to “all youngsters of immigrants” and thanked his mom for working “three to 4 jobs” to offer for him and his siblings “as an immigrant on this nation.” He expanded throughout the pre-telecast: “Immigrants constructed this nation, actually. Thanks for bringing your tradition, your music, your tales, and your traditions right here. You give America coloration.”

His remarks sparked outrage on social media, with filmmaker and influencer Tariq Nasheed writing on X, “Nigerian American ‘Nation’ singer Shaboozey received a #GRAMMY, and advised the LIE that ‘immigrants constructed this nation.’ This nation was constructed by Foundational Black People who’re NOT immigrants.” Many customers echoed his sentiment.

Kehlani leveraged twin victories for “Folded” in Greatest R&B Efficiency and Greatest R&B Tune classes to amplify her message whereas sporting an “ICE OUT” pin. “What I wanna be sure that I say is that everyone is so highly effective on this room. … And collectively, we’re stronger in numbers to talk in opposition to all of the injustice happening on the planet proper now,” she stated. “I hope everyone’s impressed to hitch collectively as a group of artists and converse out in opposition to what’s happening.”

Extra celebrities displaying “ICE OUT” pins included jazz artist Samara Pleasure, Justin Vernon, founding father of Bon Iver, Justin Bieber, Joni Mitchell, and Jack Antonoff. On X, Tariq Nasheed famous, “When each different Grammy speech turns into an immigrant shout-out, that’s not natural. That’s agenda-driven messaging dressed up as artwork.” Others had been harsher with the criticism, as one X consumer posted, “Hollywood all gathered at The Grammy’s to cry about ICE arresting pedophiles, whereas they sit in a room filled with pedophiles celebrating one another….Make it make sense.”

Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren condemned the ceremony as “social justice warrior grandstanding bulls—” and accused artists of attacking ICE officers. She argued celebrities disrespected regulation enforcement whereas “hardworking women and men of ICE and border patrol (majority Hispanic) are out on the streets eradicating public security threats and defending communities.”

NEW: Whereas different singers drop F bombs and advantage sign about ICE, Jelly Roll praises Jesus Christ on the Grammys.

“I do know they’re gonna attempt to kick me off right here, so simply let me attempt to get this out.”

“To begin with, Jesus, I hear you and I’m listening, Lord. I’m listening.”

Jelly Roll collected his first three profession Grammys, together with Greatest Modern Nation Album for “Superbly Damaged,” delivered with uncooked emotion. “There was a time in my life, y’all, that I used to be damaged,” he stated. “That’s why I wrote this album. I didn’t suppose I had an opportunity, y’all. … There was a second in my life when all I had was a Bible this large and a radio the identical measurement in 6-by-8-foot cell. And I believed that these two issues might change my life.”

Girl Gaga’s three victories, together with Greatest Pop Vocal Album for “Mayhem,” expanded her profession complete to 17 Grammys. “I simply wish to say for ladies in music that I do know typically if you’re within the studio with a bunch of men, it may be laborious. So I urge you to all the time hearken to your self and all the time combat in your concepts, combat in your songs, combat for your self as a producer. Just be sure you are heard.”
